ScopeDriver 2.3.3 Released 02 March 2006

Enhancements and New Features

• Improved speed of Orbital Element calculation throughout program.
• Observing Lists:
  • Added contextual menu item Save as Default Observing List, which allows you to easily set up defaults for newly-created Observing Lists. Previously, a document named “Default Observing List” had to be manually placed in the ScopeDriver Data Folder.
  • When a Default Observing List exists, the Observing List Contextual menu now contains the commands Delete Default Observing List... and Edit Default Observing List...
• Performance increases throughout the application program (the tradeoff here is a larger application size).
• Completely updated and revised User Guide, including new graphic elements and page design (included with download).
• Redesigned application icon, icons for observing lists, data files, and preferences files.
• Modified graphics throughout program.
• Sun warning now appears any time a slew attempt is made to an object within 10 degrees of the Sun.
• All file saves now set the ‘owner’ and ‘group’ permissions to read/write, and the ‘others’ permissions to read-only, on operating systems that support this.
• Added contextual menu to Main Window and Connect Window to control visibility and content of Communications Window.
• Improved layout of Connect Window.
• Build Number now displays in Finder Info and Explorer Properties Window.
• Internet Update Window:
  • Downloaded files are set to read/write permissions for the ‘owner’ and ‘group’ on operating systems that support this.
  • Now offers the option to decompress the file after downloading.
  • Cancelling a download now deletes the partially-downloaded file. If a download fails, the partially downloaded file is now removed from disk.
  • Download file is now saved as a temporary file, then copied to its destination at the completion of the download. This forces all operating systems to immediately display the correct file icon, and works better when downloading to a directory that is set to automatically expand its contents.
• Improved “Paste” button in Renewal, Registration, and Demo Extension windows, so that they are better at stripping off extraneous spaces, line feeds, etc. when pasting the serial number.
• Windows: Edit->Clear menu item changed to Edit->Delete.
• Windows: File->Quit menu item changed to File->Exit; keyboard equivalent changed to CONTROL-hyphen (-).
• ScopeDriver will now also look inside a folder named “Documentation” in the ScopeDriver Data Folder for .pdf files to launch via the Special menu.
• Improved appearance of Mac OS X sheet dialogs.
• Observing List Save As... now presents a warning if you attempt to save a List without the file extension. Windows builds always add the extension.
• Communications Window now displays additional information when in Test Mode. Specifically, the commands being sent to the instrument during a slew or a sync. command are displayed. Return values from the instrument are of course meaningless in Test Mode.
• Slew Progress Windows now display in Test Mode when performing a “slew” with no instrument connected.
• Communications Window: Clearing Communications History may now be performed without the confirming dialog by holding down the OPTION/ALT key while selecting Clear Communications History from the Actions... pop-up menu.
• Added Visit Store... to Special menu.
• Changed registration links to new store, placing (1) copy of ScopeDriver in shopping cart.
• Changed renewal system to new store, placing (1) copy of ScopeDriver Upgrade in shopping cart

Bug Fixes

• Fixed situation where Communications Window would report some timeout commands as coming from remote server, even with a local connection.
• Rewrote keyboard detection code to work around compiler bug on Mac OS X. Launch on Mac OS X should now proceed smoothly with all keyboard layouts, with no need to bypass keyboard checking.
• Fixed Caps Lock warning in Remote Connection Password Window.
• Corrected situation where ScopeDriver would sometimes present a Sun warning when an object was more than 10 degrees from the Sun.
• Internet Update Window: Contextual menu is now accessible when the click point is the update text field.
• Windows: In unregistered copies, Connect Window no longer opens when Registration Window is showing.
• Adjusted color printing of header in Observing Lists and Logs.
• Remote Connection Mode: When connecting to telescope from Remote computer, password need only be entered into one text field in order to continue with connection attempt.
• Area Search no longer causes error in Test Mode.
• Fixed bug where performing a Save As... on an Observing List failed to update the window’s title until a subsequent save action.
• Corrected issue where deleting an Observing List disk file that appears in the Open Recent Observing List menu, while ScopeDriver is open, could result in an error message when subsequently selecting that List from the menu.
• Fixed appearance of License Agreement text on some Windows installations.
